I happend to be on remingtons military web site and was looking briefly at the Vietnam Era M40 replicas that they are now producing and I noticed the twist was 1:12″. I found this odd because the original M40’s were a 1:10″ twist, and if they were going through the effort to clip slot the actions, you would think it would be simple to punch those barrels with a 1:10″ twist. That being said, their 700P’s and LTR’s both have a 1:12″ twist, and the contour is exactly the same as the 700P, so to save money, it is probably the exact barreled action, just parkerized and clip slotted. They are neat either way, I just found it odd that they didn’t change the twist to 1:10″ (more…)

Myth Busters: Sniper episode coming
Friday, September 29th, 2006I was contacted by a researcher for the Discovery Channel show “Myth Busters” today. They were specifically looking for pictures of Carlos Hathcock. I pointed them in the right direction and did what I could to help, but there was not a lot of hints as to exactly what they will be trying to prove or disprove, just that it was marksmanship related. But based on what they did say and a wild guess by myself, I would venture to say they will be trying to bust or prove the famous “Shot through the scope” performed by Carlos Hathcock. This is just a guess by me, and we’ll have to wait and see, but it should be an interesting episode.
