If you thought the price of ammo was already high or had gone up way to much over the last 2 years, well, you better sit down. Our sources indicated that all of the major ammunition manufacturers will be raising their prices by at least 15% on September 1st of this year. There will be an additional price increase of about the same amount at the beginning of 2008 in January!
What is the cause of the price increase? The cost of the metal (lead, brass, copper) has been sky rocketing (again). For instance, the price of lead is over three times the cost of lead just one year ago. As the price continues to rise the ammunition manufacturers have no choice but to raise their prices to cover cost. Some manufacturers have stopped taking new orders to minimize the damage until things stabilize. The prices are raising so fast that they are losing money because the cost of the materials has risen to where it is more to make it than what they originally sold it at to the customer.
It is not looking good for pricing and there is no real bright spot in the foreseeable future. The one good thing is that the price of powder seems to not be affected yet and it will remain about the same.
