New lower price on logbooks

April 17th, 2009

About a year ago we had to raise the price on the log books for the first time since its introduction about 7 years ago. Well, because of the continued popularity of the log books it has allowed us to purchase more of them at a time and we were able to get better pricing. We figured it would be best to pass that savings on to our customers! The price is now back to the original $15 and we hope to keep it there for the foreseeable future!

DoD Ammo Brass Shipping Problem Resolved

March 18th, 2009

The ruling that was revealed a few days ago that would prohibit the shipping of once fired brass by the military has been resolved. The original ruling, if it would have remained, would have prevented the military from shipping their fired brass without destroying it first. It appears that this was an unintended consequence of the ruling and has been changed due to the public outcry. Here is some more information as of about a day ago….

…just received a phone call from the office of U.S. Senator Tester of Montana to inform me that at 5:15 (EST) today a letter cosigned by Senator Tester (D-MT) and Senator Baucus (D-MT) was faxed to the Department of Defense asking DoD to reverse its new policy requiring destruction of fired military cartridge brass. At 5:30, I am told, Tester’s office received a fax back from DoD saying that the brass destruction policy IS reversed…

S&W i-Bolt Recall

Remington M40 Commemorative Back in 2009

It appears that Remington will be building a limited run of the M40 Commemorative rifles in 2009. So if you missed your limited edition rifle a few years ago, you will have your chance again in 2009. I do not have an exact date yet as to when they will be available but there will be a limited number again, 500 perhaps? The list price is about the same in the $1300-$1400 range.

New savage tactical rifles

Well, as the new year approaches it is time that we start to see some of the new products being rolled out by the manufacturers. One of those new products is the new Savage 10 FCP and 110 FCP. This is a new model line that is different than the 10FCP HS Precision or McMillan that have been out for a while. These new models have a muzzlebrake and a detachable box magazine and use an improved stock, called the accu-stock, that is more like the 10FP (The cheaper not so good one) but with some added strengthening. You can see a picture here:

The retail price on the rifle is a bit more than the standard 10FP but not terribly bad. We will be adding one of these rifles to our review list when they become available and we’ll have to see how the new stock holds up. You can see the specs for the rifle here:

A Salute to all Veterans

On this Veteran’s day, I wanted to honor all those that have served around the world in an effort to preserve and grant freedoms to mankind. It is not an easy job and most of the time thankless, but I wanted to insure all those that may have had questions or doubts that you are indeed not forgotten and you are loved. Do not weaken or slow the pace, but remember there are millions of people who support you, love you, care for you, and mourn with you.

“Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me…” Psalms 23:4

Here at Sniper Central we feel that there is indeed no more noble cause than that of serving to preserve and insure freedoms around the world. Every person has the right to live in peace and freedom and we support our soldiers as well as others that fight to preserve these freedoms. There is a Latin saying “si vis pacem, para bellum”, or “if you want peace, prepare for war”, or I have also heard it stated “Pray for peace, prepare for war”. While we all do pray and desire peace, we as current and former soldiers understand that we must prepare for war to insure peace and freedom more so than others, and for that reason we here at Sniper Central will always honor, remember, pray for, and support those who have served, are now serving, and those that will in the future serve, paying special homage and honor to those that have fallen preserving freedom and laying down their life for peace, freedom, their family, friends and country.

If you are veteran, stand up and be recognized! You have done well.

Remington R-25, No .260

Well, I am sure most of the readers here are familiar with the new AR based 308 class rifle that Remington has released called the R-25. It is a AR10 type of rifle and remington is claiming it is the most advanced 308 class AR design out there and that it is geared toward the hunter, etc etc. The camo pattern on it is okay, and it does have a medium weight 20″ barrel for long range accuracy.

This is all fine and dandy, and the rifle is positioned to be a longer range AR rifle, but what I do not understand is their caliber selection. Once again, the same company that has their name branded to the 6.5-08 (260 Remington) has missed the opportunity to let the very good long range 260 show what it can do in one of their premier rifles. As it is, it is chambered in the 308, 7mm-08 and 243. The Rate of twist on the 308 is 1:10″ which is good, and the .243 can be a good choice, but the rate of twist on the .243 is 1:10″ which is not fast enough to do the excellent heavier bullets.

To me, I do not see how the 7mm-08 could outsell the .260 so the caliber choice is a bit odd… but hey, what do I know?

New US Army M24 SWS Contract

Well, with the introduction of the M110 SASS to the US Army inventory it was never quite clear what the future was for the M24 and if the M110 was supposed to be a replacement or a complimentary system. Well, the US Army has just awarded a $11 million contract to Remington for more M24 SWS’s. I have also heard nothing about decommissioning the M24 so I will assume it still has some life left in her. 2008 does mark the 20th year of service for the M24, that isn’t too bad.
